Zenú safeguarding medicinal plants
The
guard indigenena Zenu San Andrés de Sotavento Cordoba and Sucre has been
characterized by the preservation of some elements of their cultural
identity, including the crafting, specifically the preparation
of the Sombrero Fino Vueltiao among others accessories made from the fiber of the cane
arrow, in the religious field still remains certain practices such as the
worship of the dead, belief in myths, spells, prayers for the
dead, among others, so as well remain elements related to traditional
medicine based on the use of plants. This
body of knowledge related to medicinal plants, with the passing of
time has been lost, because these kids who are living influenced by the
consumer society, which stigmatizes this type of knowledge under the
label of "herbalists","Teguas","healers"and sometimes even witches and warlocks, they also
have selfless giving value to their culture and continue to transmit
their knowledge to new generations, about the curative action of the
plant, are gone decoupling
of ancestral customs and practices, being influenced by pharmaceutical
medicine which can cause more damage to the body that medicine provided
by nature itself.In
Zenú Protection, specifically in the town of Tuchín there is a large variety
of medicinal plants with active principles, used by people and
considered important because they are part of the cultural heritage of
our people Zenú, ethnicity that has been used empirically and prepared plants
as medicine for certain ailments and simple diseases, among these, just to mentions some of the plants we can have, Basil, the Plantain, Oregano, peppermint, hierbasanta, the Aloe,
lemon, among other species.Medicinal plants are part of the cultural heritage of pre-Columbian cultures that inhabited our lands. This
empirical knowledge has been transmitted from generation to generation
orally: in families, from grandparents to grandchildren, etc.. nowadays we can take advantage of information technologies and communication
technologies (ICT) to continue to carry each of our community members
and other people that know the historical, cultural and ancestral
